Abstract(s)
Noise is the most common physical agent found in the workplace and has enormous potential to cause changes in people's health and well-being. The aim of this study is therefore to respond to the urgent need to assess occupational noise exposure of individuals who perform their activity in gyms, as well as their effects on their bodies. The sample consisted of 4 gyms and 22 workers, with noise measurements made over all modalities. Questionnaires were applied to all professionals about personal information, data related to the profession and others related to their health condition. The professionals completed a weekly schedule with all the activities they performed in the gyms under study and their exposure times. It was concluded that more than 50% of the subjects, mainly men, were exposed to noise levels harmful to their health, reaching, in some cases, 84.2 dB (A). However, LCpico values were always below the limits imposed by law and there were no reports of hearing problems by any worker, although some symptoms of feeling unwell associated with noise exposure were identified: stress, irritability, general fatigue and others.
