O presente estudo pretende analisar o impacto da violência conjugal exercida sobre as mulheres nas práticas educativas parentais com os seus filhos, nomeadamente a crença no uso da punição física enquanto estratégia disciplinar, bem como o impacto da exposição à violência no comportamento dos filhos, segundo a perspetiva das próprias mães. A investigação baseou-se em dois momentos essenciais, num primeiro momento numa abordagem quantitativa, em que participaram 68 mulheres vítimas de violência conjugal com pelo menos um filho com idades compreendidas entre os 6 e os 18 anos, de uma região do Alentejo. Para o efeito aplicou-se a Escala de Crenças sobre a Punição Física (E.C.P.F.), a parte B do Inventário de Práticas Educativas (I.P.E.) e o Questionário do Comportamento da Criança (C.B.C.L.) de Achenbach. Em seguida, no estudo qualitativo, de caráter exploratório, realizou-se duas entrevistas a mães vítimas, escolhidas intencionalmente do primeiro grupo. Os resultados do primeiro estudo indicam que as mães vítimas de violência conjugal creem mais na utilização da punição física e consideram adequado o abuso emocional na educação dos seus filhos do que as mães que não são vítimas. Por sua vez, quanto às práticas adequadas estas são utilizadas por ambos os grupos. Relativamente ao comportamento dos filhos verificou-se que estes apresentam mais problemas de comportamento do que as crianças que não estão expostas à violência, afetando-as a vários níveis. Tanto as raparigas como os rapazes, contrariamente aos teóricos, apresentam mais problemas de comportamento tipo internalizante, no entanto, os rapazes manifestam significativamente mais comportamentos do tipo externalizante. Os pais com maior grau de tolerância, relativamente ao uso da punição física, tendem a identificar um maior número de problemas no comportamento dos filhos. Perante as entrevistas efetuadas, podemos ainda verificar que as mães vítimas reconhecem a influência negativa da violência nas suas práticas educativas, legitimando a utilização da punição física, mas têm opiniões divergentes quanto à existência de problemas de comportamento nos filhos por causa da violência assistida.
This study aims to analyze the impact of spousal violence against women in parenting practices with their children, particularly the belief in the use of physical punishment as a disciplinary strategy as well as the impact of exposure to violence in the behavior of children, according to their mothers’ own perspective. The research was based on two key moments, first in a quantitative approach, in which 68 women victims of domestic violence with at least one child aged between 6 and 18, from a region of Alentejo. For this purpose we applied the Belief Scale on Physical Punishment, part B of the Educational Practices Inventory and the Child Behavior Checklist de Achenbach. Then, we did a qualitative study, exploratory, in which we held two interviews to victim mothers, intentionally chosen from the first group. The results of the first study indicate that mothers who are victims of domestic violence believe more in the use of physical punishment and emotional abuse and consider it appropriate in the education of their children than mothers who are not victims. Appropriate practices are used by both groups. Regarding to the behavior of the children it was found that these exhibit more behavior problems than children who are not exposed to violence, affecting them at various levels. Both girls and boys, contrary to what theories state, have more problems with internalizing type behavior, however, the boys manifested significantly more externalizing type behaviors. Parents with a greater degree of tolerance regarding the use of physical punishment tend to identify a larger number of problem behaviors in their children. Before the interviews conducted, we can still verify that the victim mothers recognize the negative impact of violence in their educational practices, legitimizing the use of physical punishment, but have differing opinions as to the existence of behavior problems in children because of assisted violence.
