Abstract(s)
Suicide is a serious public and mental health issue that cuts across all global realities, making its prevention a pressing concern. Suicidal behaviors are typically complex and challenging, requiring efforts from mental health and psychiatric nursing specialists for their prevention. Throughout the internships undertaken, we developed recovery and rehabilitation interventions for individuals with mental illness. Simultaneously, we implemented mental health promotion and mental illness prevention programs for university students and healthcare professionals. The primary objective of all activities centered on the prevention of suicidal behaviors. The interventions carried out were anchored in the nursing process (initial assessment, nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation of interventions, and evaluation of outcomes), grounded in nursing theories: the "Unitary Human Being," which is totalitarian, and the "Nurse-Patient Relationship," which emphasizes patient-centered care with family inclusion. Consequently, we were able to develop the common and specific competencies underlying the title of mental health and psychiatric nursing specialists, as well as the awarding of a master's degree.
