Objectives: The aim of this study is to characterize the eating and oral hygiene habits of children at the Clínica Dentária Egas Moniz before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Study and correlate the changes observed in these two temporal spaces to understand whether there was a regression in oral health practices during confinement. Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 102 children aged between 6 and 16 of both genders, who attended the Clínica Dentária Egas Moniz between February and April 2022. It consisted of two identical questionnaires: in the first, data corresponding to the pre-pandemic period were recorded and, in the second, the children expressed their eating and hygiene habits during confinement. For the characterization of the sample, a descriptive analysis was carried out using the calculation of frequencies/percentages and average values, standard deviation, minimum and maximum. Results: There have been changes in children's oral habits during the COVID-19 pandemic. As for eating habits, during confinement, 98% of the children began to eat 3 or more meals a day and 96.1% of them began to eat a sugary diet, resulting in a significant increase in the intake of cariogenic foods several times a day. Regarding oral hygiene habits, 65.7% of children started to brush their teeth only once a day and 90.2% stopped using dental floss during the pandemic. As for the cpod and CPOD indices, their average value increased from 3.35 to 3.84 and from 2.25 to 4.52 respectively, during confinement, and there is evidence to state that there was a significant difference, as the value of significance was less than 0.05 in both cases. Conclusion: Children's eating and oral hygiene habits suffered a regression during the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to a considerable increase in cpod and CPOD indexes.
