Abstract(s)
The incessant evolution and constant effort to improve construction techniques have resulted in the simplification of architecture, a process that aims to prolong the aesthetic durability of buildings, allowing them to adapt to different architectural trends and styles. This transformation began with modernism at the beginning of the 20th century, marking a transition from exuberant forms and styles with excessive ornamentation to simpler, straighter lines, adopting a more innovative and functional approach that favors simplicity and clarity in forms. This work aims to analyze architectural trends, with an emphasis on the resurgence of maximalism and its relationship with the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk. Furthermore, the evolution of this concept over the years will be examined and, at the end, a café project will be presented that incorporates elements of total works of art from the past, highlighting the attention to detail and collaboration with local artists. This approach aims to enrich not only the architectural design, but also Lisbon's historical narrative.
