Abstract(s)
O dano avascular
In equine medicine, laminitis is the second most frequent cause of mortality, surpassed only by pathologies associated with episodes of colic, thus assuming importance from a clinical and ethical perspective. This pathology is unanimously classified as an aseptic pododermatitis, frequently observed in the sequence of processes involving endocrinopathies, endotoxins and/or gastrointestinal disorders, which mainly affects the laminae of the dorsal aspect of the digit. Avascular damage to these structures, and therefore to the connection between the distal phalanx and the hoof wall, can ultimately lead to rotation and sinking of the distal phalanx within the hoof capsule. Currently, there is no consensus regarding the etiology, pathophysiology, or even the treatment of this condition, which is one of the most controversial topics in Veterinary Medicine. Thus, this bibliographic review seeks to update knowledge regarding laminitis, in the different perspectives of the pathology
