A Osteoartrose (OA) é a doença com maior prevalência no sexo feminino e cuja evolução depende em grande parte da idade.
A osteoartrose da articulação temporomandibular (OAATM), caracteriza-se por ser uma patologia de evolução progressiva, associada um processo degenerativo das estruturas articulares .
A OAATM constitui um subtipo de disfunções temporomandibulares (DTM), apresentando algumas características comuns aos diversos subtipos de DTM.
Existem inúmeras classificações das DTM, tendo sido a classificação proposta pela Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporamandibular Disorders (RDC/TDM), em 1992, a mais usada nos últimos anos.
No entanto, a falta de sistemas de classificação consensuais das DTM, especialmente da OAATM, motivou a concretização deste trabalho.
O objetivo deste trabalho é demonstrar o estado da arte das tentativas e propostas de classificação da OAATM, assim como apresentar uma proposta de classificação a utilizar nas DTMs.
Para o efeito, foi realizada, no ano de 2020, uma revisão bibliográfica, recorrendo à biblioteca do Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz, à biblioteca da Faculdade de Medicina Dentária de Lisboa e a diversos motores de busca online, nomeadamente: PubMed, Scielo, Medline, Science Direct, B-on.
A pesquisa foi limitada temporalmente, para desta forma se poder obter mais informação de artigos recentes.
Osteoarthrosis (OA) is the disease with the highest prevalence in females and whose evolution depends largely on age. Osteoarthrosis of the temporomandibular joint (OAATM) is characterized by being a pathology of progressive evolution, associated with a degenerative process of joint structures. OAATM is a subtype of temporomandibular dysfunctions (TMD), presenting some characteristics common to the various subtypes of TMD. There are numerous classifications of TMD, and the classification proposed by the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporamandibular Disorders (RDC/TDM) in 1992 was the most used in recent years. However, the lack of consensual classification systems for TMD, especially oaatm, motivated the implementation of this work. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the state of the art of oaatm's attempts and classification proposals, as well as to present a classification proposal to be used in TMDs. To this end, a bibliographic review was carried out in 2020, using the library of the Egas Moniz University Institute, the library of the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Lisbon and several online search engines, namely: PubMed, Scielo, Medline, Science Direct, B-on. The search was limited in time, in order to obtain more information from recent articles.
