Abstract(s)
The important role of the forest to the quality of Human life and its well-being has been unraveled throughout human and landscape evolutions. However, these evolutionary changes have devastating effects on the planet Earth, an example of this is global warming. Consequently, the punctual questioning about the environment led to the valorization of the ecosystem services concept. The forest ecosystem services are the benefits that the general society receives from the forest, and they include production, regulation, support and cultural services. Soil usage and the alterations of its occupation affect the ecosystem services directly. The alterations of the soil utilization are often associated with changes in soil occupation; consequently, there are alterations on the carbon stocks, this being an example of regulation forest ecosystem services. Hence, the main objectives of this work include the study of the landscape evolution in the county of Chamusca, through the observation of the usage and occupation evolution over the years of 1995 and 2018. Posteriorly, the forest sequestration of carbon was estimated, based on the carbon storage values present on the IFN6 report.
