Abstract(s)
This Project Work Report seeks to structure the pathway developed during the acquisition of General Competencies as a Specialist Nurse, and of Specific Competencies as a Specialist Nurse in caring for the Person in the Critical and Chronic Situation, and in the Palliative contexts. This pathway was achieved through the development of a Clinical Learning Project (CLP), a reflective report on Mastery skills, and an Academic Development Project (ADP) based on the theoretical framework of Pamela Reed – the Theory of Self-Transcendence. The content of the Academic Development Project focuses on the attempt to answer the investigation question: “How do nurses integrate Spirituality in the nursing praxis?”. An Integrated Literature Revision was conducted, followed by the selection and systematization of relevant information from previous studies, and with posterior analysis and discussion of data related to the investigation question, based on the Work Project Methodology. This work project is structured sequentially to incorporate the ADP and the CLP as a framework from a concept and theoretical perspective; to contextualize the Theory of Self – Transcendence; to introduce the theme of “Spirituality in Nursing” as a dimension for care; to analyze and reflect about the practical component in nursing (praxis) under the General Competencies of the Specialist Nurse, and the Specific Competencies of the Specialist Nurse for the Person in the Critical and Chronic Situation, and in the Palliative contexts; and through the reflection on Mastery competencies in Medical-Surgical nursing. Final considerations are included, relatively to the development of the actual report. Spirituality and spiritual care are essential in providing holistic care, while contributing directly to the overall care quality. The lack of a more uniformized concept for spirituality, including the scarce information and nurse training in the dimension of transcendence, may contribute partially to the inability or difficulty for nurses in integrating spiritual care in the praxis context.
