As mudanças que se verificam no mercado turístico internacional exigem a definição de estratégias capazes de dar respostas as questões de reestruturação socioeconómica, ambiental e cultural em zonas urbanas. Moçambique que procura desenvolver o turismo com o objetivo de atrair investimento, promover o crescimento económico e o bem-estar social dos seus cidadãos, procura colocar o país na rota dos grandes eventos desportivos a nível da região austral de África, do continente e do mundo em geral. As vantagens são a melhoria e expansão de infraestruturas turísticas, desportivas e socioeconómicas das populações. Para o efeito, considerou-se a determinação de Moçambique em aceita sediar os X Jogos Africanos Maputo 2011 após a desistência da Zâmbia. A Cidade de Maputo foi o destino escolhido para sediar o referido megaevento desportivo africano dada a sua forte componente logística; tem em quantidade e qualidade as melhores infraestruturas e os melhores recursos humanos do país.
Neste estudo o grande objetivo é perceber como é que o turismo de eventos desportivos contribui para o desenvolvimento e posicionamento da Cidade de Maputo enquanto destino turístico. O problema refere-se a imagem que o governo moçambicano pretende transmitir da Cidade de Maputo, promovendo um dos maiores eventos desportivos a nível do continente africano - os X Jogos Africanos. O estudo foi feito por meio de revisão bibliográfica e de recolha de dados a partir dos quais se faz uma análise numa abordagem qualitativa. Para a recolha de dados foram aplicadas as técnicas de observação direta não participante e de entrevistas padronizadas típicas para pesquisas desta natureza (estudo de caso). Como principal resultado tanto os eventos como os megaeventos desportivos que já ocorreram na Cidade de Maputo são estratégicos, pois desenvolveram e posicionaram a Cidade de Maputo como destino turístico. As principais estratégias notabilizam-se a nível social, político, dos recursos turísticos, do investimento desportivo, do entretenimento e lazer.
The climate changes verified in the international tourism market require a definition of strategies able to answer issues of socioeconomic restructuring, environmental and cultural in urban areas. Mozambique, who seeks to develop tourism with the objective to attract investors, and promote economic growth and the social wellbeing of its citizens, seeks to place the country in route of the great sports events at the Southern Africa region level, of the continent and of the world in general. The advantages are the betterment and expansion of tourism and sports infrastructures, and socioeconomic of the people. To the effect, the Mozambican determination to accept to host the X African Games in Maputo in 2011, after Zambia desisted was taken into consideration. The city of Maputo was the chosen destination to host the referred mega sports African event, given its strong logistic component; it has in term of quality and quantity the best infrastructures and the best human resources in the country. In this study, the major objective is to perceive how are the sports tourism events contribute for the development and positioning of the City of Maputo as tourism destination. The problem refers the image that the government of Mozambique intends to portray of the City of Maputo, promoting one of the greatest sports events at the level of the Africa continent – the X African Games. The study was done via bibliographic review and the collection of data from which an analysis is done in a qualitative approach. For the collection of data, direct observation techniques and non-participant were applied, and typical standardized interviews for research of this nature (case study). As the main result, as the events as the mega sports events that took place in the City of Maputo, they are strategic, thus developed the positioning of Maputo City as a tourist destination. The principal strategies were noted at social level, political, of tourist resources, of the sports investments, of entertainment and leisure.
