Abstract(s)
The present dissertation aims to investigate the factors that influence the intention to adopt cryptocurrencies among Generations Y and Z, with a particular focus on the role of trust, perceived risk, and user experience. In a context marked by digital transformation and the growing decentralisation of financial systems, understanding the attitudes of younger generations becomes crucial for the consolidation of cryptocurrencies as legitimate means of payment and investment. The research followed a quantitative approach, using a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 234 individuals belonging to the target generations. The theoretical model was supported by six hypotheses, assessing the direct and indirect effects of different dimensions of risk (environmental, privacy, security, and market), structural assurances, situational normality, usage experience, and the generational variable. The results indicate that perceived security, structural assurances, environmental predictability (situational normality), and duration of use are significant predictors of adoption intention. Mediation analysis revealed that trust does not fully mediate the impact of security risk on the intention to use, although it positively influences it. Duration of use proved to be a relevant moderator, while generation, contrary to expectations, did not show significant direct effects. Nevertheless, the findings highlight relevant practical implications for investors, companies, and regulatory bodies by identifying the main determinants that can foster a more conscious, secure, and sustainable adoption of cryptocurrencies.
