Abstract(s)
dependentes.
Metodologia: Este estudo recorre ao método descrito em “Systematic Reviews – CRD´s guidance for undertaking
reviews in health care”. Utilizamos bases de dados nacionais e internacionais eletrónicas.
Análise de resultados: Os instrumentos identificados foram: “Family Assessment Device” (FAD) (Epstein, Baldwin
e Bishop, 1983); “Family Needs Survey” (FNS) (Bailey, Simeonsson, 1988) e “Family Strain Questionnaire”
Permitem ainda
intervir precocemente nas famílias disfuncionais.
Introduction: The real involvement of families is critical to the development and success of health care delivery at all levels of prevention. The informal caregiver’s perceptions about the quality of the relationship with the dependent person is a key predictor of the presence or lack of willingness to provide appropriate care. Given this problem, the follow question was emerged: what are the tools to obtain information used by health professionals to assess the quality of family relationships between informal caregivers and dependent elderly people? Our aim is to identify and analyze the tools used to evaluate the quality of family relationships of informal caregivers and their elderly dependents. Methodology: This study follows the method described in “Systematic Reviews - CRD’s guidance for undertaking reviews in health care.” We carry out the research using national databases and international networks. Analysis of results: The follow instruments were identified: “Family Assessment Device” (FAD) (Epstein, Baldwin and Bishop, 1983), “Family Needs Survey” (FNS) (Bailey, Simeonsson, 1988) and “Family Strain Questionnaire” (FSQ) (Rossi Ferrario, et al., 2004). Discussion of results: The choice of an adequate instrument must be based on three criteria: applicability for one specific population-target; multiple dimensions that includes positive and negative aspects, objective and subjective and good psychometrics properties. Conclusions: The evaluation of the family relationships quality of family caregivers helps to identify relevant aspects and dimensions that would otherwise be devalued or even omitted. They also allow early intervention in dysfunctional families, increasing the dependent elderly people caregivers’ quality of life.
