Abstract(s)
Os cadetes do ISCPSI: (i)
do sexo masculino apresentam melhor aptidão física comparativamente ao sexo feminino;
realizados.
Police activity has its dynamics of unpredictable tasks such as control, lifting, and pursuit of a suspect, which require good physical fitness (Beck et al., 2015). To ensure that police officers have a good physical performance, physical tests should be performed. There are multiple physical fitness tests for police officers (Massuça et al., 2022), however, the evaluation protocols are very heterogeneous. Objectives: (i) to validate a physical fitness assessment protocol (PAApF) for police officers (Study I), and (ii) to characterize the physical profile of EIR police officers from COMETLIS-PSP, through the implementation of the physical fitness assessment protocol (Study II). Method: In Study I (Test-Retest Longitudinal methodology), 122 students from ISCPSI participated, following the protocol at two different moments (T1 and T2), seven days apart. In Study II (Cross-sectional observational study), PAApF was applied to 123 police officers from EIR of COMETLIS, at a single time. Four physical tests constituted PAApF: (i) horizontal impulsion jump; (ii) manual grip strength test; (iii) sit-ups of 60 s; and (iv) multi stage fitness test of 20 m. Results: PAApF got an ICC of 0.89 and SEM of 0.45. ISCPSI students: (i) presented results of physical fitness above the ones found in the international literature related to lower limb muscle potency and abdominal muscle resistance; and (ii) are above the recommended standard for the general population (above grade good), in manual grip strength and cardiovascular capacity. The police officers of EIR: (i) presented results of physical fitness above the ones found in the international literature for the four most studied physical capacities; and (ii) are above the recommended standard for the general population, in manual grip strength and cardiovascular capacity. Conclusion: (i) PAApF has high reliability related to reproducibility, indicating that it is a valid and reliable protocol; (ii) EIR police officers and ISCPSI students of the male sex presented better physical fitness when compared to the female sex; (iii) police officers from EIR with ages ≤29 presented superior results to other officers (>30 years old) in all tests; and (iv) ISCPSI students presented physical fitness test results superior to EIR police officers in 3 out of 4 performed physical tests.
