A fadiga é um fenômeno comum na aviação, indústria que trabalha 24 horas por dia e 365
dias por ano. O aumento da competitividade no setor e a busca por maiores margens de
lucro aumenta a otimização dos recursos. Esse ciclo, se não gerenciado, aumenta a fadiga,
o que resulta no aumento do risco operacional, e consequentemente a maior probabilidade
de acidentes e incidentes. O trabalho explorou os impactos do descanso controlado, uma
ferramenta de combate a fadiga inesperada durante os voos entre pilotos de companhias
aéreas brasileiras e portuguesas. Através de um questionário, que compôs da escala de
severidade de fadiga (FSS), questões de percepção de fadiga e sobre o procedimento de
descanso controlado, obteve-se 321 respostas válidas. Com a utilização de análises
estatísticas, observou-se que ambos os pilotos de companhias aéreas brasileiras e
portuguesas apresentaram níveis de fadiga consideráveis e que alguns fatores
sociodemográficos e laborais impactaram significativamente. Também, que as companhias
portuguesas possuem maior aderência ao procedimento de descanso controlado e
consequentemente sua utilização. Por fim, a utilização do descanso controlado não
demonstrou combater a fadiga a longo prazo. Por ser realidade entre pilotos de
companhias de ambos países, a melhoria na gestão da fadiga é fundamental a todos
envolvidos. Sugere-se a adoção e promoção do descanso controlado em companhias
brasileiras para poder ajudar a mitigar a fadiga inesperada

This cycle, if not managed, generates increased fatigue, which results in increased operational risk, and consequently a greater probability of accidents and incidents. This study explored the impacts of controlled rest, an unexpected fatigue countermeasure during flights among pilots of Brazilian and Portuguese airlines. We conducted a survey of 321 participants through a questionnaire, which composed of the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), questions of fatigue perception and controlled rest procedure. Using statistical analyses, it was observed that both Brazilian and Portuguese airline pilots had considerable levels of fatigue and that some sociodemographic and labour factors had a significant impact. Also, Portuguese airlines have greater adherence to the controlled rest procedure and consequently its use. Finally, the use of controlled rest has not been shown to combat fatigue in the long term. As this is a reality among pilots from airlines of both countries, improving fatigue management is essential for everyone involved. It is suggested that controlled rest be adopted and promoted in Brazilian airlines to help mitigate unexpected fatigue
