Abstract(s)
materials”, “suture techniques”, “oral surgery”, “periodontal surgery “e “wound healing”.
Healing of surgical wounds in the oral cavity present some particularities due to its unique environment. Therefore, the choice of materials and techniques appropriate to each clinical situation, promoting an efficient suture, will be important in the success of healing. This bibliographic review aims to study the concept of suturing and consequent tissue healing; to study the materials used, namely the instruments, the types of needles and the physical and biological characteristics of suture threads, as well as the most used suturing techniques in dentistry. Additionally, the role of microsurgical techniques will be analyzed. A literature search was performed in the databases "Medline/Pubmed", "Cochrane Library", "Embase" and "B-on" with the terms: "suture materials", "suture techniques", "oral surgery", "periodontal surgery "and "wound healing". Preference was given to systematic reviews and randomized controlled studies. A manual search was also performed in journals of reference in the area of oral and periodontal surgery and in textbooks on the subject. Articles published in English, Spanish and Portuguese were included without any other type of restriction.
