A utilização de novas técnicas e produtos na área médico-dentária permite não só trazer maior conforto ao paciente mas também permite ao medico dentista de optar por novos tratamentos, com resultados mais satisfatórios para os seus pacientes quando atualizado com as novidades do mercado.
A neurotoxina botulínica (BoNT) ou apenas toxina botulínica de tipo A está presente cada vez mais no dia-a-dia na clínica, visto que traz benefícios funcionais e estéticos de grande relevância. Quando bem planejada, a sua aplicação permite ao paciente não só a redução de dores musculares mas também a melhoria da estética facial.
A BoNT pode ser aplicada em diversas situações, incluindo principalmente casos de sialorreia, disfunção temporomandibular e parafunções, correção de sorriso gengival e aplicação cosmética. Sua ação temporária e reversível também traz mais segurança ao paciente favorecendo que resultados indesejados sejam corrigidos em pouco tempo.
A importância do conhecimento atual sobre seu uso será o principal objetivo deste trabalho que explora os campos de aplicação da toxina botulínica e apresenta suas vantagens, sua aplicabilidade e seus efeitos adversos nas diferentes vertentes da Medicina Dentária.
The use of new techniques and new products in the medical-dental field not only brings greater comfort to the patient but also allows the dentist to choose new treatments, with more satisfactory results for his patients when he is updated with market news. Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) or just type A botulinum toxin is increasingly present in daily clinical practice, as it brings functional and aesthetic benefits of great relevance. When well planned, its application allows the patient not only to reduce muscle pain but also to improve facial aesthetics. BoNT is also used in several situations, including cases of sialorrhea, temporomandibular disorders and parafunctions, gingival smile correction and cosmetic application. Its transient and reversible action also brings more safety to the patient and allows correcting undesirable results in a short time. The importance of current knowledge about its use will be the main objective of this work that explores the fields of application of botulinum toxin and presents its advantages, its applicability and its adverse effects in different aspects of Dentistry.
