Abstract(s)
The following project is titled "THE MELODY OF GROWING UP: The importance of exploring songs for the development of oral language in early childhood education". In order to explore the theme at hand, I outlined the following objectives for the research: i) to comprehend how children’s exposure to musical environments, particularly the exploration of songs, contributes to the development of their oral language; ii) to understand the importance that educators attribute to songs as a pedagogical resource in the process of oral language development. iii) to provide activities that articulate the domains of music and language. To carry out this project and in order to achieve the objectives I set myself, I based my study on the internships carried out during my Master's Degree in Pre-School Education, both in kindergarten and nursery school. This research project was conducted using a qualitative methodology, based on the presuppositions of action research. The analysis of all the material collected during the internships (observations made and activities promoted), as well as all the research carried out, revealed that the promotion of musical activities, particularly the exploration of songs, is a powerful resource for the development of children's oral language. I observed that these activities bring many benefits, evidencing creative work that helps children develop creativity, socialization and expression, serving as motivation for them to learn in a more contextualized and creative manner. Engaging in such activities allows children to get to know new words and helps them to build sentences; they help identify cultural belonging and, consequently, allows them to get to know new cultures; they improve their auditory and perceptive skills; they help the brain’s efficient functions, as they promote relaxation and energization, which will support awareness and foster imagination; they also allow children to improve their diction; they promote attention and full expression. In this sense, and taking into account all its benefits, it is important that the teacher does not underestimate this powerful resource at their disposal and allows the expansion of the child's expressive world, proposing activities that promote education through music and its use in the various moments of the daily routine.
