Abstract(s)
percurso.
This internship report is a central element in the course undertaken as part of the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in Nursing Care for Critically Ill Patients, at the Porto Nursing School. Its aim is to describe the process of acquiring common and specific competencies of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in nursing care for critically ill patients, which emerged within the scope of the "Internship with Report" Curricular Units (Module I and Module II), as advocated in Regulations Nº 140/2019 and Nº 429/2018 of the Nursing Council. The development and acquisition of competencies were undertaken in three distinct clinical contexts, focused on the care of Critically Ill Patients, in a cardiology high dependency and intensive care unit, a multi-specialty intensive care unit, and an emergency department. These contexts allowed for the mobilization and integration of acquired knowledge, as well as the implementation of a project that enabled the development of specialized clinical skills, namely the optimization of non-invasive ventilation for critically ill patients. Non-invasive ventilation has gained particular relevance in the treatment of acute respiratory failure. The success of therapy is directly dependent on various factors, including the acquisition of knowledge and competencies by nursing staff. Therefore, the specialist nurse must be able to respond effectively to any situations or issues that may occur, considering the knowledge and skills in the interventions developed. In this report, in addition to describing the clinical contexts where I undertook my internship, I will introduce three care conception plans based on nursing ontology. Through a critical and reflective description of the experiences, I seek to explain how they contributed to the development of competencies and knowledge acquired throughout this journey.
