Abstract(s)
A indústria
In recent years, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as innovative tools in various industries, due to their ability to access hard-to-reach and dangerous environments, mitigating risks for human operators. The maritime port industry has increasingly adopted UAVs for essential tasks, such as equipment inspections, firefighting, security, and emergency rescue missions. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research on the advantages and potential of this technology in this sector. This study seeks to fill this gap by analyzing the benefits and effectiveness of UAVs in terms of operational efficiency and data collection in seaports. The applied methodology involves an organized literature review covering 33 academic articles, along with a bibliometric analysis to identify research trends and gaps in the use of UAVs in the port industry. A review of specialised literature was also conducted, analysing technical scientific articles, technical publications, and publications on the websites of drone manufacturers and European ports to provide an up-to-date view of the use of UAVs. We also conducted semi-structured interviews with industry experts to gain a deeper understanding of practical applications. The results indicate that UAVs play a significant role in facilitating decision-making processes by improving real-time data collection and operational monitoring. These devices also promote sustainability by contributing to clean energy projects and enabling greater compliance with gas emission standards. Moreover, UAVs provide essential support in disaster and accident responses, promoting greater safety and resilience in port operations. This study not only highlights the operational advantages of UAV technology but also emphasizes its contributions to sustainability, compliance with gas emissions targets, and the execution of clean energy projects. By demonstrating the strategic value of UAVs for improving operational efficiency and responding to accidents and disasters, for example, this work provides valuable insights for port authorities and policymakers seeking to modernize and make port infrastructure more sustainable.
