Abstract(s)
Throughout my professional career I have experienced situations that raised the need to deepen knowledge in the field of caring for children with chronic illnesses. Chronic illness in children, namely cerebral palsy, impacts not only the lives of the child and parents, but also the extended family, triggering new ways of living, worries, challenges and discouragement in their daily lives. This new experience of looking at life constitutes a mix of emotions for the people involved, especially those closest to the child: doubts, fear and anxieties about the future, requiring special attention from the Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health. This report has as its thematic area “caring for children with cerebral palsy and family: intervention of the Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health” and intends to translate the path taken throughout the clinical teaching experiences, explaining the defined objectives, the activities developed, as well as the acquisition and development of common, specific and master's skills of the Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, thus constituting a decisive tool in the assessment of learning, supported by a critical reflexive descriptive methodology with the purpose obtaining a master's degree. The choice of the theme came from my professional experience and family experience. Along this path, an Integrative Literature Review study was developed with the aim of identifying in scientific literature the impact of cerebral palsy on children and families in terms of physical, social and cognitive/emotional domains, considering it important for improving quality care provided to children and families. The report is structured into four chapters, the first covers the conceptual framework, the second addresses the development of specialist nurse skills in child and pediatric health, the third refers to the integrative literature review study and the fourth presents a intervention proposal for clinical practice. This work constitutes an essential contribution to the provision of specialized care for children, young people and families, to improve my professional performance and continuity of training.
