Abstract(s)
As principais
The academic interest in the subject of violence in dating relationships/ intimacy has suffered an amazing increasing in the research field, since this is a crucial focus for the reality of human relationships. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of violence in intimate relations between genders. The results reveal significant differences between them, notably on issues like "can beat"; "deserve to be slapped"; "shouldnât be beaten no matter what happened"; "should end the relationship if he/she slapped or hit him/her." In the entire sample was also found an association between "deserve to be slapped" and âthere is no arm to push"; and between "there's no reason to be slapped" and âshouldnât be beaten no matter what happened". The main contributions of this study refer to the differences found between genders and to the legitimacy still given to episodes of violence by young people affect the dating relationships/ intimacy. In this study participated 117 young people aged between 18 and 28 years, with an average of age of 21, 03. This set of results confirms that the difference of genders is associated with different issues related to episodes of violence in dating / intimate relationships in young people. The main limitation of this study is related to the sample size and the assessment tool. In further investigations and to confirm these results is suggested the sample expansion to a wider age range
