Abstract(s)
Nowadays, innovation represents the new beat for many organizations where the policies of budget cuts are a reality. Innovation is now approached as a new chance to create value within organizations, while making them more sustainable. Innovation, however, is a capability not possessed by all organizations, neither by their workers. Older and more conservative organizations have increased difficulties following such desirable trend. For such kind to follow and engage in a more innovative path, they must be organized for innovation. It is the aim of this work to propose a solution regarding this matter of how to organize for innovation. The Case Study in perspective is the Portuguese Navy, which is an organization with seven centuries of history. Being a relatively conservative organization, it may lack the capability to innovate systematically. Efforts have been made by the leadership in order for the organization to align with nowadays innovation trends. This work proposes some reflections for a suitable way to organize the Portuguese Navy in what innovation concerns, and as such become a more innovative organization. The innovation culture, the process of innovation and, in the Portuguese Navy, the collaborative innovation are the main impulses for an organization to be capable of systemic innovation. Such are the main targets of this study.
