Os médicos dentistas estão entre os primeiros profissionais de saúde que poderão diagnosticar a erosão dentária em pacientes com doença do refluxo gastroesofágico. O refluxo gastroesofágico é uma afeção corrente, que é definido como a passagem de conteúdo gástrico ácido pelo esófago; e a doença de refluxo gastroesofágico é caracterizada por sintomas ou complicações do refluxo gastroesofágico, como as erosões dentárias.
Neste trabalho, após uma revisão da anatomia do dente e dos órgãos do sistema digestivo, a etiologia da doença de refluxo gastroesofágico e da erosão dentária vão ser descritas, juntamente com suas manifestações clínicas, epidemiologias, efeitos fisiológicos, diagnóstico e as opções de tratamento.
A associação da doença de refluxo gastroesofágico com a erosão dentária e dano dentário serão explicados em detalhe nesta tese, incluindo a forma como estes tipos de problemas dentários devem ser despistados e abordados pelo médico dentista.
The Dentists are among the first healthcare professionals to diagnose tooth erosion in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Gastroesophageal reflux is a common condition, which is defined as the passage of acid gastric content through the oesophagus and the gastroesophageal reflux disease is defined as the symptoms or complications of gastroesophageal reflux, such as tooth erosion. In this work, after a review of the anatomy of the tooth and the organs of the digestive system, the ethiology of gastroesophageal reflux disease and dental erosion will be described, along with their clinical manifestations, epidemiology, physiological effects, diagnosis and treatment options. The association of gastroesophageal reflux disease with tooth erosion and tooth damage will be explained, including how these types of dental problems should be screened and addressed by the dentist.
