Abstract(s)
respiratórias associadas a pessoas idosas.
A atuação do
esclarecidas.
Framework: Aging is a very worrying reality worldwide. In recent years, Portugal has shown an increase in the development of respiratory diseases associated with the elderly. Respiratory diseases are one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity, with Pneumonia being considered one of the main causes of death in Portugal. Rehabilitation Nursing has shown great developments in the prevention and treatment of respiratory pathologies. The performance of the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation Nursing is essential in maintaining the permeability of the airways and improving lung function, contributing to the improvement of respiratory capacity, the maximization of the person's functionality and the increase in their quality of life. Objective: To describe the activities carried out during the Final Internship, the process of developing skills as a Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation Nursing and as a Master, and to analyze the effectiveness of implementing a Functional Respiratory Reeducation Program for elderly people with Pneumonia. Methodology: A Functional Respiratory Reeducation Program was implemented for elderly people diagnosed with Pneumonia. The multiple case study methodology was used, based on Orem's Self-Care Model and Meleis' Theory of Transitions. The results of the person's respiratory function and functional capacity were evaluated. The sample was accidentally selected, according to the criteria of being elderly people with Pneumonia and accepting to participate in the rehabilitation program after clarification. Results: The evaluations carried out in the first and last sessions of the implemented program showed an improvement in the person's respiratory function and functional capacity, demonstrating gains in health, sensitive to Rehabilitation Nursing care. Conclusion: The skills of Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation Nursing and master’s in nursing were successfully acquired, since the results obtained showed improvements in respiratory function and functional capacity in most participants, evidencing the health gains associated with Nursing in Rehabilitation.
