Abstract(s)
Higher education librarians have developed formative strategies directed at students. However, a more direct support is needed for teachers and researchers, especially with regard to Open Science, its tools and skills, particularly those that can contribute to the production, organization and diffusion of knowledge. It is, therefore, important to reach these key actors with the benefits of Open Science. Any opportunities for dissemination of the concepts, associated practices and benefits of open science should be transmitted, thus enabling better communication and stimulating good practices focused on open source research, open data organization and the publication and dissemination of scientific knowledge in open access. The purpose of this study is to reflect on the role of higher education libraries and their contribution to Open Science by providing tools and information to higher education teachers and researchers. The study focuses on a literature review that lists the benefits and tools of open science, along with the skills required for researchers, from which a report of an experience is developed by higher education librarians in Portugal. This experience shows how to promote the circulation of knowledge around Open Science and, consequently, to stimulate good practices that involve the good use of information, particularly in open access, with teachers and researchers. The study reveals a dissemination strategy that aims to support teachers and researchers in their academic and scientific goals: the virtual leaflet DID YOU KNOW THAT... The library provides tutorial training and disseminates this supporting documentation, which fosters the development of skills in areas such as: advanced information research, impact factors, choice of journals for publication, creation and management of researcher profiles, self-archiving of scientific production, scientific data management, among others. The main challenge that the study reveals is that teachers and researchers can access practical tools that help them in their daily lives, contributing to the development of autonomous, reflective and critical professionals in Open Science. These are essential learnings for the participants of this movement, enhancing the progress of research and its dissemination on a large scale.
