Abstract(s)
e segurança no armazenamento dos fármacos anestésicos e psicotrópicos (66%);
(48%); percentagem elevada de salas de recobro sem ventilação adequada (69,8%);
medicina no trabalho permitirão reduzir significativamente a exposição a estes riscos,
profissionais expostos.
The clinical-hospital environment offers a number of risks, the most neglected of which is the risk of handling anesthetic agents. The aim of this study was to assess the risk associated with the handling of anesthetics by veterinary science professionals and to identify health problems associated with prolonged exposure. An online survey was designed for health professionals to assess their level of knowledge and exposure to this occupational risk. A total of 129 surveys from veterinary medicine professionals and 29 from human medicine professionals were analyzed. In the veterinary sciences, the results show poor packaging and safety in the storage of anesthetic and psychotropic drugs (66%); a low number of anesthetic equipment with a maintenance and safety protocol (37.2%); a low number of rooms with air extraction or forced ventilation (48%); a high percentage of recovery rooms without adequate ventilation (69.8%); still low number of occupational health consultations (81% of respondents don't know); low awareness and knowledge of the risks of contact with anesthetic drugs (37.2%); lack of knowledge of current legislation (48.1%); low adherence to the use of personal protective equipment, except among female professionals who are pregnant, where the level of application is 60.34%. In the field of veterinary medicine, information and studies are still limited and not very explicit compared to human medicine. This study highlights the need to improve practices and control measures when handling anesthetic agents in veterinary environments. The adoption of adequate ventilation systems and the continuous training of professionals are crucial to reducing occupational risks. A good combination of risk control measures and monitoring by occupational health consultations will make it possible to significantly reduce exposure to these risks, guarantee a safe and healthy working environment and take care of the health of exposed professionals.
