As doenƧas periodontais sĆ£o um problema de saĆŗde global. SĆ£o doenƧas inflamatĆ³rias progressivas em vĆ”rios estĆ”gios, desencadeadas pela inflamaĆ§Ć£o das gengivas em resposta a periodontopatĆ³genos e podem levar Ć destruiĆ§Ć£o das estruturas de suporte dos dentes, perda dentĆ”ria e problemas de saĆŗde sistĆ©micos.
Nesta tese retrata-se os efeitos da suplementaĆ§Ć£o de probiĆ³ticos na prevenĆ§Ć£o e tratamento da doenƧa periodontite com base na avaliaĆ§Ć£o de resultados clĆnicos, microbiolĆ³gicos e imunolĆ³gicos.
Periodontite Ć© uma doenƧa microbiana associada aos tecidos que suportam os dentes e implantes dentĆ”rios, mediadas pela inflamaĆ§Ć£o do hospedeiro e que eventualmente levam Ć perda de dentes e implantes dentĆ”rios. Dado o papel dos probiĆ³ticos no controle do biofilme, na reversĆ£o da disbiose e na modulaĆ§Ć£o do hospedeiro, seus potenciais efeitos benĆ©ficos na melhora da periodontite foram recentemente investigados. O uso de probiĆ³ticos tambĆ©m tem sido proposto no manejo da saĆŗde periodontite em pacientes submetidos Ć terapia ortodĆ“ntica fixa. Portanto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo a importĆ¢ncia dos probiĆ³ticos na periodontite, considerando a composiĆ§Ć£o do microbioma periodontite ao redor de dentes e implantes dentĆ”rios em condiƧƵes saudĆ”veis e patolĆ³gicas, os supostos efeitos favorĆ”veis dos probiĆ³ticos na gengivite, periodontite e periimplantite.
Da anĆ”lise dos artigos estudados hĆ” diferentes opiniƵes na literatura que podem ser devidos aos diferentes mĆ©todos, posologia e duraĆ§Ć£o das prescriƧƵes de probiĆ³ticos e aos mĆ©todos heterogĆ©neos de mediĆ§Ć£o biolĆ³gica e clĆnica utlizados. Assim, nĆ£o foi possĆvel tirar conclusƵes definitivas sobre a eficĆ”cia dos probiĆ³ticos no uso do tratamento da periodontite. Mais estudos sĆ£o necessĆ”rios para validar os probiĆ³ticos para o tratamento periodontite e fornecer protocolos recomendados.
Periodontal diseases are a global health problem. They are progressive inflammatory diseases in several stages, triggered by inflammation of the gums in response to periodontopathogens and can lead to the destruction of tooth-supporting structures, tooth loss and systemic health problems. This thesis portrays the effects of probiotic supplementation in the prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases based on the evaluation of clinical, microbiological and immunological results. Periodontitis is a microbial disease associated with the tissues that support teeth and dental implants, mediated by host inflammation and eventually leading to loss of teeth and dental implants. Given the role of probiotics in biofilm control, dysbiosis reversal and host modulation, their potential beneficial effects in ameliorating periodontitis have recently been investigated. The use of probiotics has also been proposed in the management of periodontal health in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic therapy. Thus, the present study aimed at the importance of probiotics in periodontitis, considering the composition of the periodontal microbiome around teeth and dental implants in healthy and pathological conditions, the supposed favorable effects of probiotics in gingivitis, periodontitis and peri-implantitis. From the analysis of the articles studied there is a contrast in the literature that may be due to the different methods, dosage and duration of probiotic prescriptions and the heterogeneous biological and clinical measurement methods used. Therefore, it was not possible to draw definitive conclusions about the effectiveness of probiotics in the treatment of periodontitis, both in healthy and pathological conditions. Further studies are needed to validate probiotics for periodontal treatment and provide recommended protocols.
