Abstract(s)
melhorada e diversificada.
The events sector has boosted areas such as tourism and hospitality and increased the local economy, with emphasis on event tourism that acts as a catalyst in the development of various areas such as urban renewal, community empowerment and marketing, generating long-term or even permanent impacts. Events as a central element in the tourist destination system, lack attractions, accommodations, transportation or services that are adapted or developed in favour of increasing the tourist offer, and it has proven to be important to know the destination and ensure that it has an adequate infrastructure for the holding of events (venue), as is the case of congress centres. This research focuses on the relevance of the Estoril Congress Centre (ECC) in the events segment and the impact on the hotel industry. Through a case study, the relationship between an event space and the hotel industry in the Cascais region is perceived, as well as the relationship between the attraction of events of the ECC and competing facilities. In addition to a bibliographic review on the topics under analysis, this study presents the geographical and touristic characterization of the Cascais region, the contextualization of the ECC, and resorts to an empirical research with the application of interviews to a broad group of stakeholders, including representatives of the region's hospitality industry, those responsible for the ECC's event management and experts in tourism and events. The results showed that the impact of this equipment is very positive for the region and the hotel industry, and could be further enhanced with the implementation of some suggested measures. At the ECC level, the interviewees suggested measures such as the creation of a dining area, diversifying the events, enlarging the structure and reinforcing the promotion of the venue in sector fairs. Although a good synergy between the ECC and the hospitality industry is acknowledged, this can be improved and diversified.
