Abstract(s)
This study focused on the relevance of safety training, with regards to fire safety in buildings, in first intervention means and evacuation processes, from the perspective of the initial police intervention, until the arrival of firefighters and other rescue means at the scene and the self-protection measures of police facilities. The study aimed to characterise human behaviour in fire situations, fire safety in buildings and training in the Public Security Police, contextualizing that despite the unpredictability of urban fires in Portugal in which the police were called to intervene, it was important to gather from the intervening police officers their perception regarding this issue, with emphasis on their performance, the difficulties felt when experiencing this type of occurrence in their mission and using training as a preventive measure, with focus on the need for training, as a measure of self-protection and capacitation of police officers, to contribute to greater personal and property security
