Abstract(s)
The hospitalization of the child causes stress and affects family dynamics. Nurses should involve the family in the care plan, assessing their needs. The general objective was to develop specialized skills in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing in order to meet the needs of the family facing the hospitalization of the child and adolescent. In this regard, Betty Neuman's conceptual model and scientific evidence were mobilized in the database research. To understand the needs of parents accompanying the hospitalized children, the “Needs of Parents Questionnaire”, by Gudrún Kristjànsdóttir, was implemented in two contexts. The results demonstrated the importance of the need for trust in healthcare professionals and information during hospitalization. Therefore, it is essential to establish a therapeutic relationship, promoting parental participation in the care of their children and reinforcing their parental role to maximize their health. In the internship contexts, after the diagnosis of the situation, specific objectives and activities were outlined for their achievement. Nursing care focused on the child/family was provided to maximize their health in situations of special complexity, adapted to the child/young person’s life and development needs. Respect for human rights was ensured, initiatives for continuous improvement programs were developed, and care was coordinated with the multidisciplinary team, thereby deepening self-awareness, a key tool for the specialized nurse. In conclusion, the critical and reflective analysis during the provision of care allowed for the acquisition of common skills of a master's degree and a Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health.
