dc.description.abstractA Língua Azul ou Febre Catarral Ovina é uma doença viral transmitida por um vetor, um mosquito do género Culicoides, sendo a espécie Culicoides imicola a mais prevalente em Portugal. Foram detetados alguns surtos da doença na Europa, levando vários investigadores a propor a hipótese de uma relação entre as alterações climáticas, como o aumento da temperatura e a disseminação do vírus. O serotipo 4 do vírus da Língua Azul, até então apenas detetado na região do Algarve, Alentejo e Santarém, apareceu pela primeira vez no mês de julho de 2022, na região da Serra da Estrela. Um carneiro apresentava sinais clínicos compatíveis com a doença e realizaram-se análises laboratoriais que confirmaram a presença do vírus e do seu serotipo 4. O presente trabalho pretende relatar o caso clínico do primeiro animal da região da Serra da Estrela infetado com o serotipo 4 do vírus da Língua Azul. Adicionalmente discute-se a possível relação do surgimento deste serotipo numa área geográfica atípica como a Serra da Estrela, com as alterações climáticas.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractBluetongue or Ovine Catarrhal Fever is a viral disease transmitted by a vector, a biting midge from Culicoides genus with Culicoides imicola being the most prevalent species in Portugal. Several disease outbreaks were detected throughout Europe, leading some investigators to suggest that climate change and virus dissemination are directly correlated with each other. The serotype 4 of the Bluetongue virus, only previously confined in the Algarve region, Alentejo and Santarém, appeared in July of 2022 for the first time in the Serra da Estrela region. One male sheep presented clinic signs compatible with the disease and laboratory analyses were performed that identified the presence of the virus and its serotype. The present work aims to report the clinical case of the first infected animal with serotype 4 of the Bluetongue virus in the Serra da Estrela region, and subsequently link the emergence of the disease with climate change. It was found that these climate changes may be the cause of the pathogenic agent spread and for having repercussions on the vector’s life cycle due to the increase in temperature and increasing the transmissibility of the virus.pt_PT
