Abstract(s)
Environmental sustainability is a subject that has received a lot of debate in recent years. The effects of climate change are perceptible throughout the world and if we don´t apply measures to reduce them, those effects can go thru a point of no return. Therefore, each and every person has a responsibility regarding the world sustainability. Also, this responsibility has to be in every company as well, mostly on those whose operations contribute, in a larger scale, to the degradation of the quality and sustainability of the environment. It is because of the individual responsibility regarding environmental sustainability, that this project has emerged and this paper was written. Hotels are amongst the biggest consumers of natural resources on their daily activities. This is a situation that demands some focus by the academic world, in order to analyse and study their working standards, in a way that it becomes possible to present the best solutions to reduce their consumptions, maintaining their original status. Hotels are companies and to keep operating they need profits. That is why the sustainable solutions presented to them need to have economic gains. Sustainability is a very complex topic and it covers a lot of subjects. For that reason, this paper will only analyse the water sustainability. This project is a benchmarking case between the Hotel A and the study of eight other hotels made by Almeida et al. (2016). The final purpose of this paper is to analyse the economical-finance and sustainable performance of the Hotel A on a universe of nine hotels. To complement this work, it is also analysed the sustainable and organizational components of the Hotel A. With the results obtained, a strategy was made that would allow the Hotel A to increase their performance by investing in water sustainable measures. It was also created three possible scenarios that represent the economic benefits of applying those measures.
