Introdução: A ecografia ou ultrassonografia é um método de diagnóstico considerado seguro e muito acessível à população pelo seu baixo custo, fácil acesso: é, também, um exame não invasivo e indolor, que não utiliza radiação ionizante e que pode ser realizado em todas as faixas etárias, podendo ser empregue em diferentes áreas da medicina, por ser um método capaz de diagnosticar diversas patologias ou mesmo a sua ausência. Por isso, torna-se importante garantir a qualidade de diagnóstico e de imagem destes exames, sendo necessário um controlo de qualidade através de programas e testes específicos. Estes devem ser implementados e realizados regularmente, para assegurar a qualidade da imagem de diagnóstico.
Objetivo: Esta investigação tem como objetivo verificar se as diferentes instituições realizam regularmente o controlo de qualidade nos equipamentos ecográficos, quais os testes, como são realizados e a sua periodicidade.
Material e Métodos: O estudo é composto por uma amostra constituída por 13 instituições nacionais, que contem equipamentos de ecografia nos seus serviços. As respostas foram recolhidas através de um questionário online, com questões de resposta aberta e fechada, relativas aos equipamentos ecográficos e testes de controlo de qualidade. Após a recolha de dados, foi realizada uma análise descritiva por parte do investigador, com recurso a tabelas e gráficos criados pela plataforma onde foi realizado o inquérito, e também ao IBM SPSS Statistics.
Resultados: Das 13 respostas obtidas ao questionário, 7 das instituições, ou seja, 53,8% realizam controlo de qualidade nos seus ecógrafos. Cinco dessas instituições praticam os testes de controlo de qualidade com recurso a um fantoma. A maioria executa o controlo de qualidade duas vezes por ano. Conclusão: A prática de testes de controlo de qualidade é recomendada por diversos organismos internacionais, e tem impacto na qualidade de imagem e consequente diagnóstico do doente.

It is also a non-invasive and painless examination that does not use ionizing radiation and can be performed on all age groups, and can be used in different areas of medicine, as it is a method capable of diagnosing various pathologies or even their absence. Therefore, it is important to guarantee the diagnostic and image quality of these examinations, requiring quality control through specific programs and tests. These must be implemented and performed regularly to ensure the quality of diagnostic image. Aim: This research aims to verify whether different institutions regularly carry out quality control on ultrasound equipment, what tests are carried out, how they are carried out and their frequency. Material and Methods: The study composed of a sample of 13 national institutions, that have ultrasound equipment’s in their services. Responses were collected through an online questionnaire, with open and closed questions, regarding ultrasound equipment and quality control tests. After data collection, a descriptive analysis was carried out by the researcher, using tables and graphs created by the platform where the survey was conducted, and also using IBM SPSS Statistics. Results: Of the 13 answers obtained to the questionnaire, 7 of the institutions, 53,8%, perform quality control on their ultrasound equipment’s. Five of these institutions perform quality control tests using a phantom. The majority perform quality control twice a year. Conclusion: The practice of quality control tests is recommended by several international organizations and it has an impact on image quality and subsequent patient diagnosis.
