Abstract(s)
Destaca, ainda, a
A primeira
The internship report is a fundamental component of the academic journey undertaken in the Master’s Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, focusing on Nursing for the Person in a Critical Situation, at Porto Nursing School. This report summarizes the learning process developed in the Curricular Units "Professional Internship with Report - Module I and II," highlighting the acquisition and development of specialized competencies in Medical-Surgical Nursing, particularly in Nursing for the Person in a Critical Situation. It also emphasizes the importance of clinical settings as privileged learning environments, reflecting on the impact of this experience in consolidating the competencies required to obtain a Master’s degree and, in the future, the title of Specialist Nurse in Medical- Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for the Person in a Critical Situation, following the requirements established by the Portuguese Order of Nurses. Based on an initial project, the main objective of the internship was to develop specialized clinical competencies, supported by evidence from literature research, focusing on a systematic review centered on nursing interventions for a Person in a Critical Situation with an endotracheal tube, aimed at preventing pneumonia. The internship took place in three distinct clinical settings: the Cardiology Intensive Care Unit, the Intensive Medicine Service, and the Emergency Department. These settings enabled the application and integration of knowledge acquired throughout the study cycle, facilitated the practical implementation of the project, and consolidated specialized competencies. Structurally, the report is organized into three main parts. The first part characterizes the clinical settings where the internship took place. The second part presents a clinical case study, describing the clinical decision-making process and its theoretical foundation. Finally, the third part focuses on reflecting on the process of developing competencies throughout the internship.
