Abstract(s)
organizações, nomeadamente as PMEs.
SMEs play a fundamental role in the country's economic landscape and scenario, being responsible for a significant portion of employment and contributing to overall economic growth. However, these companies face unique challenges that require effective management practices to achieve sustainable success. This study aims to investigate the relationship between management practices and performance indicators such as productivity, profitability, and growth in SMEs in Portugal. Based on a comprehensive review of existing literature, this research considers and examines the historical importance of business management, organizational performance, and its impact as a whole on the economy. It also covers various measures and ratios for performance analysis and the characterization and definition of a company. This study seeks to understand the impact that proper management has on the performance of SMEs in Portugal. With the use of various databases, the study follows a quantitative approach, using quantitative data from a particular survey to assess the perception and utilization of management practices by companies in Portugal. Additionally, statistical data from the integrated accounting system of companies, both provided by the portuguese National Institute of Statistics, are used. By employing various statistical techniques such as statistical hypothesis testing, linear correlations, simple and multiple linear regressions, it was possible to determine the extent to which management practices influence performance of organizations, mainly SMEs. The results of this dissertation aim to contribute to increase existing knowledge of the importance and implications that management practices have for companies in Portugal. By verifying the existence of a relationship between an increase in management practices and an increase in various performance metrics, it is possible to determine this importance and encourage companies to take more initiative and proactive measures when it comes to management practices.
