Nesta revisão da literatura foi efetuado um estudo inicial da anatomia e biomecanica da articulação temporomandibular (ATM),asim como da exploração e das diferentes patologias que possam ocorrer na mesma. Seguidamente, o trabalho centrou-se nas conclusões que a comunidade científica reporta da relação entre a oclusão, disfunção temporomandibular (DTM) e ortodontia. Foi ainda elaborada uma compilação de algumas diretrizes no diagnóstico e abordagem terapêutica dos pacientes com DTM, ortodontia, e com as diferentes maloclusões.
In this review of the literature, an initial study of the anatomy and biomechanics of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), as well as of the exploration and of the different pathologies that may occur in it.Was carried out. Next, the work focused on the conclusions that the scientific community reports on the relationship between occlusion, temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) and orthodontics. A compilation of some guidelines in the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of patients with TMD, orthodontics, and with different malocclusions was also elaborated.
