Abstract(s)
The World Health Organization identifies care settings for the critically ill person as high-risk areas for compromising their safety, predisposing them to the occurrence of adverse events. Considering the complexity of intervention in this context, nurses play a leading role in the detection and early intervention in urgent/emergency situations, but also in surveillance, constituting a differentiated resource in the multidisciplinary team. Within the scope of the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Specialization of the critically ill person, a pathway was taken with the aim of developing specialized skills in the nursing care for the critically ill person and his family, with a focus on promoting safety, based on the theoretical references Vigilance: the essence of Nursing by Meyer and Lavin, Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing by Locsin and Fundamental Care by Kitson. This document portrays the reflective analysis of the activities developed, at the culmination of the development of competencies. The activities described, combined with the critically ill person in different scopes, within urgent/emergency situations, allowed for knowledge deepness, mobilizing scientific evidence to support the specialized nursing care, as well as developing the ability to solve problems in new/unfamiliar situations, anticipating instability and managing complex therapeutic protocols, maximizing infection prevention and control, and contributing to continuous quality improvement, along with the development of professional learning.
