As alterações da deglutição apresentam uma elevada taxa de prevalência, tanto em contexto de internamento hospitalar como na comunidade. As complicações associadas são diversas, levando a um aumento significativo da morbilidade e mortalidade. Considerando esta temática uma área de interesse pessoal e uma problemática atual nos cuidados de saúde, o presente relatório de estágio contempla como abordagem metodológica uma revisão narrativa da literatura que retrata os aspetos mais relevantes do tema escolhido, seguido de uma análise das experiências vivenciadas em contexto de estágio à luz do conhecimento, da Teoria das Transições de Afaf Meleis, e das competências comuns e específicas do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem de Reabilitação.
Sendo a deglutição um processo complexo e essencial durante todo o ciclo de vida, a intervenção do Enfermeiro Especialista em Enfermagem de Reabilitação, inserido numa equipa multidisciplinar, torna-se fundamental no que concerne à prevenção de complicações, reeducação da função deglutição, e capacitação da pessoa. Na prática clínica, verificou-se que uma avaliação precoce reduz consideravelmente o risco de aspiração e complicações associadas. Além disso, a implementação de programas de Enfermagem de Reabilitação a pessoas com alteração da deglutição promoveu a melhoria desta função, maximizando o potencial e autonomia da pessoa.
There is a high prevalence of swallowing disorders in both hospital settings and the community. The associated complications are diverse, leading to a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. Considering this topic as a personal area of interest and a current issue in healthcare, this internship report adopts a methodological approach of narrative literature review, depicting the most relevant aspects of the chosen theme, followed by an analysis of experiences encountered during the internship within the framework of Afaf Meleis' Theory of Transitions and the common and specific competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Rehabilitation Nursing. Since swallowing is a complex and essential process throughout the life cycle, the intervention of the Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation Nursing within a multidisciplinary team is fundamental for preventing complications, re-educating the swallowing function, and empowering the patient. In clinical practice, early assessment was found to considerably reduce the risk of aspiration and associated complications. Additionally, the implementation of Rehabilitation Nursing programs for individuals with swallowing disorders promoted the improvement of this function, maximizing the patient's potential and autonomy.
