O Burnout na Polícia de Segurança Pública: causas e engagement

| dc.description.abstract | Com o reconhecimento do burnout como um fenómeno ocupacional e com a crescente preocupação com a saúde mental no local de trabalho, é fundamental que, numa organização como a Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), em que o bem-estar dos trabalhadores interfere diretamente com a segurança dos cidadãos no geral, se abordem temáticas relacionadas com os recursos humanos, procurando melhorar as condições no local de trabalho e diminuir a tendência para o aparecimento de patologias. Para além da revisão da literatura foram realizadas 5 entrevistas a informadores chave, para aprofundar esta componente teórica. De forma a perceber qual o nível de saúde mental dos polícias e que tipo de fatores estão na sua origem, foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, em que se aplicou um questionário para aferir os níveis de burnout (através do questionário OLBI) e engagement (com o questionário UWES), numa amostra de 465 polícias a exercer funções no COMETLIS, bem como a sua relação com determinadas variáveis sociodemográficas. Verificou-se que quanto mais burnout, nas dimensões de exaustão e distanciamento, menos o engagement e as suas dimensões. No que diz respeito às variáveis sociodemográficas, as variáveis sexo, função operacional e distância aproximada da colocação atual à residência de origem não revelaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas. Nas variáveis estado civil e carreira provou-se que são os polícias que não mantenham uma relação afetivo-amorosa e os agentes os mais afetados pela exaustão e pelo distanciamento e apresentam níveis menores de engagement e das suas dimensões. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | After the recognition of burnout as an occupational phenomenon, and taking into account the increasing concern with mental health in the workplace, approaching issues related to human resources is fundamental in organizations such as the Public Security Police (PSP), in which the wellbeing of workers directly interferes with the safety of people. Besides revision of literature, we conducted five interviews to key informants, in order to strengthen this theoretical component. The main goal is to improve workplace conditions and decrease the tendency for developing such pathologies. In order to understand the level of mental health of policemen and the factors which determine its origin, we conducted a quantitative analysis, in which we administered a survey to evaluate levels of burnout (using the OLBI survey) and engagement (using the UWES survey), in a sample of 465 policemen working at COMETLIS, and connected the results to given sociodemographic variables. We concluded that the higher the level of burnout, in the categories of exhaustion and distancing, the lower the level of engagement and its dimensions. In which concerns the sociodemographic variables, we concluded that gender, operational function, and distance between the workplace and place of residency did not reveal any statistically relevant differences. In which concerns civil status and category, we concluded that policemen who were not involved in an affective or romantic relationship and police officers are affected the most by exhaustion and distancing, and therefore show lower levels of engagement and its dimensions | pt_PT |
