Abstract(s)
Objective: This study aims to test the cross-cultural validation and applicability of the Chronic Oral Mucosal Disease Questionnaire-15 (COMDQ-15) in a portuguese population, encouraging its use in clinical practice. Materials and methods: The original COMDQ-15 was translated and culturally adapted, making it suitable for the target population. From April to July 2024, the portuguese version, supplemented with demographic questions, was answered by a sample of 55 patients with erosive oral lichen planus from the Clínica Integrada de Medicina Oral, Lda, voluntarily and anonymously, giving their free and informed consent. The questionnaire was then psychometrically validated, assessing its reliability by analyzing its internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The total sample of participants with erosive oral lichen planus who completed the questionnaire consisted of individuals with a mean age of 62.4 years (±11.7) and a predominance of females (69.1%). Of this total, around 54.5% are workers and 10.9% are active smokers, with no gender predominance. The Portuguese version of the COMDQ-15 showed high reliability, with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.910, indicating an excellent level of internal consistency. This value suggests that the questionnaire items are strongly correlated with each other in a stable and consistent way, ensuring that they all measure coherent aspects of the same construct. Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the COMDQ-15 is a brief, low-load, valid and reliable questionnaire capable of providing information on the perspective of patients with erosive oral lichen planus regarding their quality of life in a Portuguese population. Its low response burden facilitates communication with patients and simplifies its use in daily clinical practice.
