A Comunicação dos enfermeiros perioperatórios com a família/pessoas significativas de
doentes adultos sujeitos a cirurgia programada, durante o período intra-operatório, reduz a sua
ansiedade? Com o objectivo de responder a esta pergunta efectuámos uma revisão
aprofundada da literatura em fontes primárias. Os achados que resultaram desta revisão
científica da literatura mostraram-nos que o período de espera, para os familiares, pode ser um
período gerador de níveis de ansiedade elevados. Esta revisão também confirmou aquilo que
sentimos na prática clínica, e que levou a que escolhêssemos este tema: os enfermeiros podem
ter um papel muito importante nesta fase, diminuindo a ansiedade, evitando potenciais crises,
restabelecendo o equilíbrio e aumentando a satisfação dos familiares dos doentes operados e
dos próprios doentes uma vez que o envolvimento da família nos cuidados aumenta a
colaboração do doente; promove a adaptação do doente à doença; diminui a ansiedade da
família; aumenta a satisfação da família relativa aos cuidados prestados; e promove uma
atitude positiva em relação à hospitalização.Esta é, sem dúvida, uma área de intervenção da
enfermagem importantíssima e prioritária, sobre a qual devem existir mais estudos no futuro,
levando à sensibilização dos enfermeiros para a ansiedade da família dos doentes cirúrgicos
adultos no período intra-operatório.
Abstract: The Communication between perioperative nurses and the family / significant others of adult patients undergoing scheduled surgery during the intraoperative period, reduces their anxiety? In order to answer this question we made an exhaustive review of the existent literature on primary sources. The findings that resulted from the scientific literature review showed us that the waiting period may generate high anxiety levels for the surgical patient family. This review also confirmed what we felt in daily practice, and that led us to choose this theme: nurses can play a very important role at this stage, decreasing anxiety, avoiding potential crises, restoring balance and increasing the satisfaction of the family and patients themselves once the family involvement in care increases patient collaboration; promotes the adaptation of the patient to the disease; decreases the anxiety of the family; increases family satisfaction regarding the care provided; and promotes a positive attitude towards hospitalization.This is, without any doubt, a crucial area of nursing and an important priority, on which there should be more studies in the future, leading to sensitization of nurses for the anxiety of the adult’s surgical patient family.
