Abstract(s)
sobrevivência e sucesso do sector hoteleiro.
The huge rise of tourism over the past decades is one of most remarkable phenomenon in the economic, social and cultural field. For many years the sector's economic agents ignored the environmental impacts of this activity, however, the significant growth that has been seen in conjunction with climate change, have made evident and some serious social, environmental and cultural threats in the most vulnerable tourist destinations. Sustainability in tourism and hotel activities is therefore a determining factor for the current and future tourism activity, which must be studied and used as development and environment protection factor. This work intends to deepen the study of sustainability in hospitality industry, determining which are the most sustainable measures adopted by the four star hotels in Lisbon and defining witch are the main obstacles to the implementation of new green practices. By applying the Sullivan matrix is concluded that the departments with greater diffusion and infusion of eco-friendly measures are energy and air control, and although the main obstacle to the adoption of new environmental practices seems to be the high value of initial investment, the lack of knowledge about available alternatives and their impact on hotel routine was also evident. In a world that is looking for new growth models and economic development at high speed, the fight against climate change and adoption of good sustainable practices is not only considered an option or trend, but rather a condition for the survival and success of hotel sector.
