Abstract(s)
Perante o progresso da agricultura e os avanços na zootecnia, a profissão de veterinário rural está a
evoluir, assim como as suas responsabilidades. Utilizando o exemplo das raças bovinas Holstein frisia
e Blanc-Bleu Belge, pretende demonstrar-se o papel das biotecnologias reprodutivas e das práticas de
maneio na evolução genética dos bovinos e o seu impacto do ponto de vista zootécnico e de bem estar animal. Esta revisão apoia-se em noções de filosofia moral, de ética normativa e de bioética,
colocando o médico veterinário como um ator central entre os animais, os criadores e a sociedade em
geral. Através de uma abordagem multidisciplinar, este trabalho pretende salientar a importância de
uma medicina veterinária ética e reflexiva, empenhada em melhorar continuamente as condições de
vida dos animais de produção, respondendo simultaneamente às necessidades produtivas, sociais e
ambientais de um sector agro-pecuário moderno.
With the progress of agriculture and advances in animal husbandry, the practice of rural veterinary medicine are evolving, along with its responsibilities. Using the example of the Holstein-Friesian and Belgian Blue cattle breeds, this work aims to demonstrate the role of reproductive biotechnologies and management practices in the genetic evolution of cattle, as well as their impact from both a zootechnical and animal welfare perspectives. This review draws on concepts from moral philosophy, normative ethics, and bioethics, positioning the veterinarian as a central actor among the animals, the breeders, and society. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this work seeks to highlight the importance of an ethical and reflective veterinary medicine, committed to the continuous improvement of the living conditions of production animals, while also addressing the productive, social, and environmental needs of the modern agricultural sector.
