The spirituality of the person in a palliative situation plays a decisive role in palliative care, due to its influence on quality of life, resilience and response to suffering. Evidence and ethical standards highlight the importance of spiritual care as part of a holistic, person-centred approach, which is crucial to the quality of care aimed at the comfort and well-being of this population. Spiritual care, as part of nursing intervention, includes valuing and integrating this dimension, identifying spiritual needs and contributing to their fulfilment, in an integrated way in therapeutic plans. This report describes the training undertaken to acquire the competencies required for the practice of Specialised Nursing and the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Palliative Care Nursing. The training project to acquire these competences, based on the Project Work Methodology, was developed over the course of two internships, carried out in a complementary way in specialised palliative care contexts. During the first internship in the Palliative Care Unit, learning needs were identified for the practice of spiritual care, which motivated the development of the Training Project. This project was implemented during the second internship, in a Community Palliative Care Support Team. The activities carried out included the acquisition and deepening of theoretical and scientific knowledge, interpersonal skills training and reflective practice during the provision of comprehensive care to people being monitored by the team, supported by Pamela Reed's theoretical framework of Self-Transcendence. These practices resulted in the integration of spiritual care into therapeutic plans, contributing to the development of the desired competences, and showed the positive impact of spiritual care on the dignity, comfort and quality of life of people and families in a palliative situation.
