Abstract(s)
The purpose of the communication is to characterize the research developed by the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPSC), based on the scientific production carried out in the health area, which is indexed in the Scopus, MEDLINE and Web of Science databases. Scopus is one of the largest reference databases, covering the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and the arts and humanities, so it was necessary to use the thematic filters offered by the database. All subjects that did not correspond to the health area were excluded, but all the associated themes were selected (health professions, health psychology, among others). In the search, as subject term, the name of the country in English associated with the country affiliation condition was used. The survey was reproduced for each of the following countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor. With MEDLINE, which is a database of the biomedical area, the information collection was based on an advanced research, in which the subject term of the country associated with the affiliation condition was used as subject term. In this case, a survey was also made for each of the countries mentioned above. The Web of Science is a database that works as a multidisciplinary platform, having a temporal scope that falls back to around 1900. Thus, it was necessary to use the categories filter to limit the results of the research and, like Scopus, thematic areas were dissociated from health, but all associates were selected. In the advanced search the field label CU was used, which corresponds to the identification of the country and allows locating records where the country is identified in the address field. Also in the Web of Science the individual research of each one of the member countries of the CPSC was realized. The information collected was organized and analyzed using a set of variables: i) scientific production; (ii) authorship; iii) authors' productivity; iv) institutional affiliation of the authors; (v) language versions; and vi) study types. This study allows the authors to make a graphic image of the scientific production of the CPSC countries in the health area and indexed in the three large international databases. In the same way, it allows to conclude that the research in a single database does not portray the reality, nor does it allow conclusions to be drawn.
