Abstract(s)
The fungus Candida Albicans, a fungus present in the oral cavity in saprophytic form, can become pathological depending on the individual's health status and local conditions in the mouth. When the fungus becomes pathogenic it can result in mucosal infection causing a condition called candidiasis. Several species of Candida can cause candidiasis, but this infection is considered opportunistic, as it only occurs in cases where the individual's defenses or local changes allow its development. Immunocompromised patients (with AIDS, transplanted or undergoing chemotherapy) as well as patients with local alterations (use of prostheses or other oral devices that predispose to plaque accumulation). This work carried out a review of the literature on the use of dental prostheses and the occurrence of candidiasis, analyzing the factors related to the virulence of the fungus Candida Albicans. Oral candidiasis is an infection whose main treatment is the use of antifungal drugs associated with the removal of local factors that predispose to fungal proliferation.
