Abstract(s)
principais vantagens a nível económico, social e ambiental.

The social and environmental problems associated with the remoteness of the population from rural to urban areas and, as a result, the dependence on conventional farming and monoculture practices have been growing a general concern for the future and are, therefore, increasingly discussed between the competent authorities. This work is a project of mostly social and environmental nature, which consists of installing a community garden in the parish of Barreira, to make use of a land with agricultural skills that is being unused and to address the problems mentioned above. The project begins by conducting a study of existing community gardens in Portugal that demonstrates the growing interest of the population to devote part of their time to working in agriculture and then presents the budgets, the cost and benefit analyzes of the installation of the project. This analysis reflects how urban and community gardens can be a solution to today's environmental problems, and shows their main economic, social and environmental advantages. Keywords: urban agriculture; community garden; organic farming; local development; harnessing uncultivated land
