Abstract(s)
Conservation of objects perceived as of inestimable value for the perpetuation of the patrimonial heritage and the construction of social memory is an imperative for the survival of humanity. In this context, museums emerge as privileged spaces of preservation and protection enjoyment of significant collections by society as a whole. This is a reality to which the Air Museum of the Portuguese Air Force is not oblivious, on the one hand by allowing the enjoyment of a memory of the military and civil aviation – which is a reference both in Portugal and the international context – and, in the other hand, by intending to generalise the implementation of preventive conservation to its entire collection. This investigation, therefore, aimed to propose contributions to the optimisation of the conservation of the collection of the Air Museum, following and inductive reasoning, based on a qualitative research strategy and a case study-type research design. From the results (document analysis and analysis of data of semi-structured interviews with 16 entities with responsibilities in preventive conservation, including eight national and two international museums), it was concluded that this optimisation would involve the implementation of four measures (norms, protocols, training, and actions and procedures), materialised in associated lines of action.
