Abstract(s)
The present research aims to analyze the effects of Industry 4.0 on production processes from the perspective of an automotive company – Visteon Corporation. In a context marked by digital transformation and the convergence between the physical and digital worlds, Industry 4.0 represents a paradigmatic shift in production systems, driven by technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), advanced automation, and collaborative robotics. The study seeks to understand how these technologies contribute to improving operational efficiency, product quality, and decision-making. Specifically, it aims to assess the current adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in production processes, identify perceived benefits, explore challenges to their integration, and evaluate their impact on managerial decisions. A qualitative, interpretivist approach was adopted through an in-depth case study supported by semi-structured interviews, direct observation, field notes, and photographic records. Visteon was selected due to its strategic position in the automotive sector, strong technological innovation, and practical implementation of Industry 4.0 tools in its manufacturing operations. Results indicate that digitalization at Visteon has significantly improved traceability, operational efficiency, product quality, and responsiveness to market demands. The integration of MES and CIM systems enables real-time monitoring and data-driven decision-making, while robotic arms and autonomous vehicles enhance automation and internal logistics efficiency. The main contributions of this study lie in bridging theory and practice of Industry 4.0 in the automotive context, demonstrating the value of a qualitative interpretivist approach, and identifying concrete operational impacts that can guide both managers and researchers.
