Abstract(s)
Abstract The main purpose of this study is to describe the level or pattern of motivation with regard to sporting activity in the Academia Militar. It is an ad hoc quantitative study that covers the four years of the course during the Academy’s present academic year. The sample, which corresponds to the population, consists of 456 students of both sexes. To obtain the data, a questionnaire was used that guaranteed validity, fidelity and objectivity. The resulting data were processed by computer using the statistical programme “Système Portable pour l’Analyse des Données”, thusproducing the descriptive statistics as well as the automatic classification of variables. The treatment and analysis of the date suggest that the levels of motivation perceived by the different academic years are similar, yet it is the 3rd year that shows the highest average. There is a relation between the academic mark and the perceived motivation of the students. The students in their 4th year have their objectives centred on the ego, andthose in their 1 st year have their objectives centred on the task. There is a significant number of students who mention the need to alter the timetable of their physical training classes. We propose a study of whether the motivating of the students by the different instructors is reflected in the interest and motivation of the students during their classes.
